[FiRe] Software lagging to Hardware

These are notes from the Future in Review conference. More here.

It was very notable that several people from the hardware industry (incl. the aforementioned Intel managers as well as Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and now with Cisco, mentioned that while hardware becomes ever cheaper along the path of Moore's Law, software becomes ever more bloatful to immediately fill the efficiency gains created by hardware up to the max. This is probably healthy for Intel's sales, but on a larger perspective, it seemed to the hardware guys that software really needs to do some serious catching-up.

I didn't know about this perspective before, and although I have some issues with it (mainly that software is also used to ever more complex tasks so that it has to become more complex as well), it is a very interesting one.
