[FiRe] Joichi Ito's trends for the coming 5 years

These are notes from the Future in Review conference. More here.

Joichi Ito, a Japanese venture capitalist, who also has a highly recommended weblog, talked about trends he sees for the coming five years.

We are moving from content to context. With the huge increase in personal publishing, everybody's a producer and a consumer at the same time. Digital Rights Management becomes less important when content producers are also consumers and are much more interested in getting their content out. Metadata is becoming ever more important. Silicon Valley will in the future be concerned very much with individuals creating personal Web services enabled by open APIs, tools, and metadata. Also, personal publishing, metadata, and convergence will enable emergent democracy.
